One of the things I like most about returning to places I have lived is meeting up with old friends. It’s been three years since I last visited Greece, where I had lived for over 20.   I was having a coffee (and frozen yogurt) in one of the newly popular frozen yogurt shops with an old friend who is still teaching here in Athens. Even though she works in a prestigious private school, She was describing the same challenges, facing the same issues and feeling the same stress I was familiar with in the UK educational system.   Of course her situation is exacerbated by the economic... (Read More ...)

I haven’t had a “proper holiday” for a couple of years now (OK, put the violins away!) and many a time have remarked how I’d love to be teleported to a quiet beach somewhere hot. This thought took root in my head and I often daydreamed I was there, relaxing in the warm sun, hearing the waves gently lap on the beach. I always imagined the beach would be in Greece, where I used to live, as I have lots of friends and family there. Part of the way the LOA works is that you mustn’t be attached to HOW your desire manifests. You  put out the intention and hand it over to... (Read More ...)

Here we are almost halfway through January. How are your 2014 resolutions/goals/intentions shaping up? Not so well, huh? Isn’t it about time someone told the truth about New Year’s Resolutions? Here it is: they do not work. Here are three reasons why: First, you overspend in December. Second, you overeat and drink for the entire holiday period. Third, you do both the above to excess on 31st December. Result = New Year’s Resolutions on January 1st. What’s wrong with that you say? What’s wrong is that these decisions come from guilt, fear and shame. So you run to the... (Read More ...)

I hope you will all forgive me for adapting Mahatma Gandhi’s famous quotation in my title today. What he actually said was,                 “You must be the change you wish to see in the world.“   Quite a tall order. Isn’t it up to somebody else to change the world? Like the people in charge? Or someone who is paid to do it? If that was your immediate reaction, then you are not alone. Most people would love to have the life of their dreams, without putting in the work to achieve the results they desire.   If only you could order your dream life by clicking... (Read More ...)

Do you remember being in school (as a student!) and gazing out of the window, lost in your thoughts, daydreaming, only to be brought sharply back to reality by the teacher’s voice? I know I do, and I was so scared of any punishment, I very quickly learned not to spend class time dreaming and to pay attention to the lesson. If you can relate to this, you probably gradually did what most of us do, which is to stop dreaming and limit yourself to what you saw others achieving around you. But you are doing yourself a very great disservice, as you’re stifling your creative imagination and... (Read More ...)
